Glassblowing is a spectacular craft that continues to captivate all ages. Moulding the hot, viscous substance demands fire, skill, raw muscle power and years of experience. In the glass studio at the National Glass Museum, you can get up close to watch glassblowers produce a wide variety of decorative and artistic objects from hot, molten glass. Watch the masters at work from the visitor stands while expert staff tell you all about this wonderful craft!
Glass studioThis loop takes you past the loveliest spots between the Lek and Linge rivers and through a beautiful area just made for cycling and strolling. Discover delightful historic cities with a character all their own, and soak up the lush green tranquillity of the Zouweboezem nature reserve. Along the way, you’ll see ancient farmsteads and charming spots to take a rest.
Bicycle routesIn the Utrecht region you’ll find true Dutch crafts and trades, still being carried out in the traditional way. Look inside the cheese warehouse and discover how cheese is made and matured. Drop anchor at the fishing village of Spakenburg where the magnificent old fishing boats still moor in the historic harbour. Admire the glassblowers in action at the glassworks and see how flour is milled in one of the region’s many windmills.
